Leonardo Villarreal Alejandro is a registered patent practitioner. Leonardo helps clients protect their innovations and intellectual property rights in technologies related to electronics, software, medical devices, mechanical devices, and more.
Leonardo has both practiced and taught intellectual property law. His experience includes working at the Office of Enrollment and Discipline (OED) at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. At OED, Leonardo investigated grievances regarding the practice and conduct of patent and trademark attorneys, prepared patent bar exam questions, and assisted stakeholders and members of the public with guidance regarding USPTO rules and regulations. In private practice, Leonardo has represented clients in patent and trademark applications, technology transfers, software licensing, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS agreements, corporate due diligence regarding intellectual property assets, and intellectual property disputes. He has also represented patent professionals under disciplinary investigation.
Leonardo’s teaching experience includes having served as an adjunct professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico Law School teaching intellectual property law. Leonardo has also taught ethics for computer science students at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.
Leonardo has delivered numerous presentations on intellectual property and business legal issues to numerous audiences, including seminars organized by the Puerto Rico Small Business Technology Development Center, presentations for students visiting the USPTO, and online intellectual property webinars organized between the SBA and the USPTO.
In his spare time, Leonardo enjoys spending time with his wife and son. Leonardo also enjoys coding (primarily in Python and C#) and developing microservices residing in Microsoft Azure.
Leonardo is an active member of the Virginia State Bar and the Puerto Rico Bar. He works with clients worldwide out of his office in Colleyville, Texas.
